Southpaw Chop is a Japanese DJ/Producer who has remained true, sampling only from original vinyl when he produces beats, refusing to use CDs or mp3s. He came into action in the late 80's being influenced by internationally acclaimed Japanese DJ's such as Krush and Honda during a period when the Disco scene changed into the Club style in Tokyo.
In 1998, Southpaw Chop was featured on DJ Krush's sensational instrumental album "Kakusei" on the track "1200" which was produced using only the SP1200. Following this collaboration, Japanese rapper "Nipps" (Buddha Brand) heard about Southpaw and immediately appointed him as producer for a new project away from his band. The reaction was good and they successfully laid down highly respected record call "God Bird" and captured huge attention within the Japanese Hip Hop scene.
A few years later in 2004, Southpaw Chop was signed & released his first album "Light Sleep" and 2 EP's on the Japanese label Tri-Eight Music Supplies. On this album, his programming skill impressed his fellow producers. Since then, starting for Japanese major artists like You The Rock, and producing rap artists, from major to the indie. Southpaw’s musical taste and production skill have cast his props in stone.
Southpaw Chop's relentless energy continues to progress and has led him to release various mix CDs and his newly produced instrumental track - "Rookie" which featured on Takahiro Morita's skate video "Underground Broadcasting" and has caught acclaim for his music outside of his usual fanbase. In response to this, he decided to launch his own label "Southpaw Chop Music Production" and hit back with a ground breaking record to sell his first EP (including the hit "Rookie"). He has since became an editor at large of mix CD series called "Underground Railroad" which has grown to impact and determine the price of underground Hip Hop records all around the world.
International distributor "Crosstalk Chicago" recognised Southpaw’s talent and as a result have signed a worldwide distribution deal for his label. To celebrate this event, Southpaw is set to release his solo instrumental album, the concept scenario to express his long time pursued method of sampling. It's entitled "Never Stop Sampling (Dedicated for those MC's away from the limelight)". First up is a 12” inch single due in early 2010. With this information, our fellow, core fan basis media people like London's top running radio"Rhythm Incursions", Amar Patel("Straight No Chaser"), Robbie Ettleson("Unkut.com") and Rare Dave("diggerswithgratitude.com") are coming forward to welcome Southpaw Chop's stepping stone into the world from Tokyo.

時代に流されることなくあくまでもオリジナルレコードからのサンプリングにこだわり続けるDJ・プロデューサー。80年代後期から音楽活動を始め、シーンがディスコからクラブに変化を遂げるディープな時代にDJ KrushやDJ Hondaといった世界のトップアーティストらと行動を共にする機会に恵まれ自身のセンスとスキルを磨いていく。1998年には全曲をインスツルメンタルでまとめたDJ Krushの話題作[覚醒]にサウンドプロデューサーとしてフューチャーされ、SP1200のみで構成された曲[1200]で華々しいデビューを迎えるのである。そして賢人ここにありとの噂をいち早く聞きつけたBuddha BrandのNippsはすぐさま自身のプロデューサーとして向い入れ名盤と名高い[God Bird]を生み出し日本のHip Hopシーンに話題を呼んだ。2004年には本名名義でTri-Eight Music Suppliesから初のソロアルバム[Light Sleep」と二枚のEPをリリース。その難解なプログラミング技術がシーンの度肝を抜いた。また、You The Rockを始めメジャーからインディーまで幅広い層のMCのプロデュースに携わりその抜群なセンスと制作能力の高さが認められ人気を不動のものと確立していく。さらに快進撃は続きSouthpaw Chop名義では多数Mix CDをリリース。森田貴宏監修の人気スケートビデオ[Underground broadcasting]に提供した曲[Rookie]が予想以上に反響を呼び、重なるファンの要望に答え自身の冠を取ったレーベルSouthpaw Chop Music Productionからその曲を収録したEPをリリースし記録的な速さで完売となる。その後世界のUnderground Hip Hopのレコードの値段が左右されてしまうほど影響力を持ったMix CDシリーズ[Underground Railroad]を監修・取り締まる存在となる。そしていよいよ海外進出の時期到来と感じてた矢先に海外ディストリビューターCrosstalk Chicagoからその才能を買われ、レコード市場が不況な時代にも関わらず海外リリースに向けての配給オファーを勝ち取る結果となった。長年に渡ってこだわり続けたサンプリングという手法を追求したニューアルバム[Never Stop Sampling]の中から先行して来年早々には念願の世界デビューを担うEPのリリースが決定する。ロンドンの人気ネットラジオ "Rhythm Incursions"を始め、Amar Patel("Straight No Chaser"), Robbie Ettleson("Unkut.com")やRare Dave("diggerswithgratitude.com")といったコアなファン層を抱えるメディアパーソンの援護射撃もあり、彼の舞台は東京から始まり世界へと移り変っていくのである。
